texas holdem strategyFixed limit Texas Holdem is different from the usual no limit Texas Holdem.  The biggest difference is that in fixed limit Texas Holdem, all betting is a set amount throughout the game, whereas in no limit Texas Holdem, the sky is sometimes the limit for betting.  As a competent player, you will need to set up some effective strategies when playing fixed limit Texas Holdem if you plan on coming out ahead when playing the game.  Top Holdem players from around the world rely on these strategies when playing in their favorite online poker room, casino, or game room. Our Internet poker guide covers fixed limit Hold'em instead of no limit because I find FL Hold'em to be more profitable. Read our Texas Hold'em rules article before hitting up he Hold'em tables.

Poker Face – Why It's Important

The principle rule for a poker player is to completely hide your emotions from your opponents during play.  A less-than-seasoned poker player (during any game) will subconsciously give off clues about their hand's strength or weakness.  These clues or "cues" are called poker "tells".  Professional poker players who play poker for a living often study such minute details as the pulse on the side of their opponent's necks to determine if the opponent holds a good hand.  When playing online, the poker face is not as visible, but there are still "tells" you can look for.  Chat box conversations, for instance, can provide a big look at the opposition's hand, especially if they like to brag or taunt. Play with someone long enough on line and you can "read" them in certain ways that will help you judge their hand's threat against your own.  Your best bet: don't chat – unless it's to compliment the other players.  This builds their confidence and keeps them in the game for longer periods of time so that you can take more of their money!

    Betting Wisely and Bluffing

Understanding betting techniques in poker will help you win the game, and bluffing your way to victory is easy to do while playing Fixed Limit Texas Holdem.  Since all players are only playing with two cards face down and building a hand from the community pile, many players can be fooled by bluffing—which will cause them to second guess themselves and eventually over bid when they have a bad hand; that's good news for you. A good player will also know when to cut their losses during the game as well.  Foolish pride or foolhardiness has been the downfall of many poker players; know when it's time to get out and wait for a better hand to come your way. There are two types of poker players; TAG and LAG. Check out this TAG poker guide for more info.

    Stay Focused

From beginning players to seasoned veteran poker sharks, there are often occasions that will arise that will cause a poker player to lose focus on their own hand.  Many times, players will focus too much on the other player’s game that they miss opportune chances to win with decent hands.  Stop overanalyzing the other player’s hands and worry about your own.   You will gain the ability to come out ahead once you stop focusing on others and stay focused on your hand.  With the attraction of winning large sums of money, Texas Holdem can be quite an addictive game.  Keep in mind that focus is powerful and can be a great strategy to help you win the pot.  As you become a better Holdem player, following the basic strategies listed above will help you enjoy the game and become a formidable opponent to the other players at the table.
