texas holdem rulesFixed Limit Texas Holdem is one of the more popular poker games available for all to enjoy; Holdem is easy to understand and to play. Out internet poker guide covers fixed limit poker because that is my area of expertise. The concept of the game is straightforward.  Each of the players at the table is dealt two cards face down known as pocket cards.  Once the pocket cards have been dealt, the dealer will then deal three cards to the middle of the table, face up, for all to use in order to construct the best hand possible; the best hand will win the pot. Texas Holdem is one of the most often-played games on all of the major poker websites and poker rooms that are found online.

    Fixed Limit

During fixed limit Texas Holdem, the maximum raise or bet is a set amount.  For example, in a $2/$4 stakes fixed game, both raises and bets for the two first rounds of play cannot exceed $2, while the last two rounds have a raise and bet limit of $4.

    The Cap

In fixed limit Texas Holdem, each one of the rounds of betting will consist of only one bet, and three permissible raises.  If a bet is made, three raises can follow the bet; after this, all players must either fold or call.  On the other hand, if there are only two players left in the hand, the cap is then raised a maximum of five times.

    The Blinds

Blinds are mandatory bets that are posted by two players at the beginning of the hand before any cards are dealt.  The player who is seated to the left of the dealer will post the small blind, which is half of the smaller stakes.  The player on the left side of the small blind is the big blind, and the big blind posts an amount equal to the larger stakes in the game.  Going back to the $2/$4 stake example, the small blind will post $1 and the big blind will post $2.  The blinds are an incentive to players to build up the pot and to play their hands.  Any player that wants to play the round will have to match the big blind in order to stay in the game.  The small and big blind are considered to be live bets; when the betting goes around the table and returns to the original player who was the blind, this player has the option of folding, raising, calling, or checking their hand.

    Gameplay

After the hole cards have been dealt to the players facing down, the action begins with the player who is the big blind.  That player will then decide to fold, raise, or call the big blind.  Each player after the big blind is then given the same options until all of the bets are called. Once the dealer has placed the three community cards face up, this is known as “flop.”  Betting will commence once again, starting with the player who is seated to the left of the dealer.  In the $2/$4 example, any raises or bets must be $2.

The fourth community card is dealt face up on the table, and betting begins again, just like in the previous round, where the bet amount will be maxed at the upper stake.  When the final community card is placed face up on the table (which is also known as the River Card), the last round of betting begins.  Once all of the bets have been called, the last player to raise or bet during the final round will show their hand first.  Starting in a clockwise manner around the table the rest of the players will show their hand.  The best five card hand combination will win the pot.
